How To Choose The Best Surgeon

Having surgery is a major life changing event. You want to make sure you get the best surgeon possible for the job. So what are some things to look for? In this post we will go over some simple tips on picking a great surgeon and then give some of our recommendations.

Tip #1: Reviews

This should be fairly obvious but sometimes can go overlooked. Before choosing a surgeon you should check out all of their reviews on various platforms. Don’t just go to their website and believe all the reviews on there. It is very easy for people to place fake reviews on websites they control.

You will want to go to third party review sites where they cannot be manipulated. Google, Facebook, Yelp, RealSelf and so on are all great sites. If you simply type the surgeons name into google with the word “reviews” after it, it will give you a list of various websites.

Tip #2: Check Forums

Forums can be an excellent source of unbiased opinions on a doctor. There are a lot of different forums out there and if you find the right local forum, you can ask people who has used who. People love giving their opinions and will try and steer you in the right direction.

Tip #3: Have a Consultation

Go ahead and meet with them! Some surgeons charge a fee for a consultation and some are free. You certainly want to meet with the surgeon and make sure you are comfortable with them. Check out their facility and ask a ton of questions.

Tip #4: Don’t Go for Low Budget

Oftentimes people make the mistake of going with the cheapest surgeon around. Is saving a couple thousand dollars really worth a screwed up surgery? This is your body you are talking about. We have heard countless times from good surgeon about all the procedures they have to do to fix botched surgeries by low quality practices.

Tip #5: Shop Around

Meet with multiple surgeons and see who you like the most.

Tip #6: Facebook Groups

Local facebook groups are awesome for getting opinions. Much like forums, people love giving advice. If you simply asked if anyone had any suggestions for surgeons in the area, many will give their opinions.

Tip #7: Experience

You want an experienced surgeon. Ask to see before and after images of past procedures. As well as asking how long they have been practicing. Pictures can tell a thousand words!

Overall, it is important to do your due diligence for this life changing event. We’ve compiled a couple of surgeons that we personally know do great work in the field. If you are in the area of any of them, we highly suggest you contact them!
